The version 3.0 of Twitterrific made it into an advertising supported shareware and every hour an ad would pop up on the top of the list. Twhirl is a desktop client for twitter which runs based on the Adobe AIR platform. Some features of twhirl are: it runs on both Windows (2000/XP/Vista) and Mac OS X. It connects to multiple twitter, seesmic, and friendfeed accounts. It displays notification for new messages and shortens long URLs. It can also cross post the updates to Jaiku and many other sites like Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn. It also posts images to twitpic. It can also automatically find tweets using your @username.

Tweetdeck is another twitter client which is also based on the Adobe AIR platform. It is one of the most popular desktop applications according to twitstat. It is compatible with Microsoft windows, Mac OS X and manual installation in Linux is also possible. Users can split the program into separate column to show different things. Tweetdeck interfaces with 12 seconds, Twitscoop and Stocktwit. It has a web 2.0 suggestion system called User voice which allows users to suggest new features.

Twitter clients being of various types have managed to launch Twitter into many different operating systems, thereby not limiting its functionality over the globe. Many new versions of twitter clients offer interesting features for their users making their social platform smooth.
