Selling on E-bay is both fun and profitable and with a relatively minimal amount of effort, can become a profitable side or full-time business.

First, you have the enjoyment of finding the right items. Almost any vocation or avocation can lead to items which can be found selling on E-Bay. If you become accustomed to thinking about items whether physical or intellectual in terms of whether they would be profitable selling on E-Bay, you will find more and more items will come under the heading of potential sellers.

Once you have determined that you have an item or items ready for selling on E-Bay if you have not already done so, you need to send up an E-Bay account. This accomplishes two purposes. First, you provide E-Bay with needed information to contact you and establish that you are a legitimate person and old enough to conduct business. Second, you provide yourself with an alias to use on line in order to protect your own privacy and prevent visits or unwanted telephone calls and email from potential buyers or internet pests. Selling on E-Bay puts your presence before literally millions of people and not all of them will be respectful of your privacy.

Now that you've set up an account and found something to sell, you are ready to begin selling on E-Bay. An investment in a digital camera is almost a must for profitable selling on E-Bay. Take pictures of each item you wish to sell. Try to present the item in its best light, but don't try to hide or minimize flaws. You will be found out later if your honesty is less than perfect.

Using E-Bay's seller tools fully describe the item and add pictures as appropriate. List the good points of the item, as well as any problems. If you have special information about the history or 'provenance' of the item, it helps to make your item stand out. When you are determining the price of the item, you can either set an immediate price for selling on E-Bay called "Buy it Now", or you can allow a regular auction sale to continue and set a reserve price for your item. The reserve price means that if the bids do not rise to the level of the reserve price that you set, the auction for the item will close with no sale and therefore no cost to you except the minimal listing price.

Once you have completed your listing, including description of how the item will be paid for and shipped, your only role is to wait for the auction to be completed. Once a winning bidder has been chosen, contact them immediately with reminders of payment due information and state a date when and how the item will be shipped. You should, however, wait for payment to clear before shipping.

Finally, recognize prompt payment and courtesy from your buyer with positive feedback and expect to receive the same from your buyer, once he has received the item you promptly and carefully shipped.

This in simple terms is how you go about selling on E-Bay
