Email marketing is a popular but tricky process. Thus is does not always prove useful if carried out indiscriminately and without proper planning and analysis. For this proper analysis, it is necessary to gather the proper statistics regarding the outcome of the emails that have been sent with a view of promoting a particular product or service. The various areas in which these statistics are gathered are described below.

The major field of statistics is the fate that the email met with after they have been sent. These include whether the mails have been delivered or have they bounced, if delivered, whether they have been opened and if they have been opened, whether the links provided in them have been visited and if so among the multiple links provided which links have been visited. This helps the businesses to plan their future strategies and campaigns.

The second field, in which statistics are gathered, is the response of the clients to a particular design of an email. This can be tested by trying out different templates and designs initially and then gauging the response and hence settling upon a particular one. For example, it has been observed that provision of a large number of links generally dissuades the reader from clicking on any of them.

Another important area to gather statistics about is the rate of delivery of messages to a particular Internet Service Provider (ISP). If an abnormally high (almost 100%) rate o bouncing emails is observed for a certain ISP, it may imply that the particular ISP is blocking you emails and the problem can be further dealt with as required.

There are also a number of other miscellaneous statistics which prove to be quite useful. These include whether t your emails are attractive enough for their readers, the number and percentage of email users in a targeted area, the time of the day during which the mails are generally checked also the location at which the same is done, the time of the year when checking of emails is greater for example, many of the email users do not check their mails when on vacation or leave and other such myriad fields.

Careful analysis of these statistics only will make your email marketing more successful and therefore it is quite viable to invest certain amount of time and money in the same as it is you who are going to get the returns.
