When evaluating your email marketing campaign there are a few things you need to take into consideration. First you have to decide if you want to do it yourself or if you would rather have a professional come in and do it for you. It is not a difficult procedure so you can do it on your own. It is going to cost you to have someone come to you and do it. If you decide to do it yourself, here are the simple guidelines:

You will have to define the problem, find its source and find out what it is doing wrong. The earlier you find the problem, the quicker it can be fixed and the damage can be saved. Look into your email as most email marketing campaign problems start there. When looking into your email, check the following:

Look at who the emails are from, if it is a name or address you recognize it will open quickly, if its not it will take long to open. So look for anything suspicious on emails you do not recognize.

If in the "subject" of the email, you see things you are not interested in, you do not need to open the email. For instance if in the subject you read "get free insurance for one year" and you are not interested in insurance, you can delete the email without opening it.

When bringing in an outsider for the assessment, they might see things that you cannot see because you are used to seeing the same page everyday. They might be able to identify the problem straight away. "Fresh eyes" work sometimes.

If you bring in someone that has done similar work with other companies and their campaigns, they will be able to give you more information based on their knowledge of previous work.
