There are many ways to have an E-Bay business these days. In fact, E-Bay has been responsible for allowing more people to actually become small business owners than perhaps any other advancement in the history of the United States.

E-Bay business fortunately has grown at the same time that many other businesses have been downsizing or collapsing completely. In addition, many U.S. jobs have now been out-sourced to other countries, further straining the ability of workers to provide for their families in traditional ways.

Two factors combined to make the E-Bay business model both achievable and profitable. First, the internet made the markets which once were limited to the neighborhood or the community, truly world wide. If there is a way to package and ship an item, there is a market for the product. People's inventiveness and ingenuity have allowed innovative, creative and useful products to be widely distributed.

Since larger markets usually means larger sales, many entrepreneurs have gone the whole route and become totally dependent upon their home-based businesses.

Another important factor in the growth of the E-Bay business is the ease with which one can enter the marketplace and set up as an independent business. An E-Bay business requires very little overhead. In fact, other than the cost of acquiring the inventory, the only costs for overhead on a very small scale business is the listing fee and the cost of shipping the first item once it is sold. Even the cost of the inventory may be negligible, since many early items were simply either garage sale or attic clean-outs.

As confidence in the market venue grew, so did E-Bay business. The auction site added E-Bay stores. Real estate, vacation trips and educational materials all could easily be marketed on E-Bay. Where ever there was something new to sell, someone determined it could be sold on E-Bay and listed it there. The expansion of the number of small businesses and home-based businesses has been skyrocketing in the past few years, and much of the growth can be attributed to E-Bay business.

The move away from the corporate giants selling only through mega-stores is increasing. More and more cottage industries are returning and making a good living from the proceeds. There will always be people who prefer the creative aspects of a business and others prefer the clerical end, but an E-Bay business allows for both types to flourish and prosper.
